Kenyans can now pay their taxes through mobile money on the Airtel network after the telecom entered into partnership with the Kenyan Revenue Authority (KRA) in a bid to see the network provider grow its revenue.
Under the new partnership, Airtel subscribers across the country will be able to enquire for KRA services, generate payment reference numbers (PRN) or an e-slip so as to make quick and simple payments through the mobile money platform.
The service will be available by dialling the USSD code *572# and will charge subscribers a fee between KSh10 and KSh270, depending on the amount that one is paying through the platform.
Once the payments are made, customers will receive an SMS notification from both KRA and Airtel Money in confirmation. The maximum payment that customers can make through the platform in a day is KSh140,000.
This new move will give customers in Kenya a convenient way to pay their taxes by reducing the long queues that Kenyans have to make in the KRA banking halls, and at the same time provide Airtel Money users with customer satisfaction.
“Taxpayers who pay taxes using Airtel Money are assured that their payments will be cleared, processed and credited to the KRA account in real time,” said Adil El Youssefi, the CEO at Airtel Kenya.
KRA currently has made available the e-slip generation through mobile for Traffic revenue service payments in the application and renewal of Driving Licences, Mobile Vehicle Transfer, Logbook Payments as well as Motor vehicle inspection payments.
Other services will require Kenyans to visit the KRA website, iTax, in order to generate an e-slip number that will facilitate payment through the Airtel Money platform.
