youtube for schoolsYoutube (the famous Google product that focuses on video sharing) recently launched a service channel that is primarily for learning.

This comes at a time when videos are seem as a great source of information and YouTube are at the top of ensuring that they are the key distributors even when it comes to learning. Videos have long been incorporated in learning from the early days of VCRs and their tapes, and now DVDs that are full on useful and curated content.

There are more than 400 playlists found here, and they are split into grades (which automatically means that it is built for the US and Europe for now).

Kenya and Africa at large is yet to see this localized version but we really look forward to a time when teachers will spend less time searching, and more time teaching.

viral_videoYoutube is in Kenya. The company had a launch in a Nairobi hotel recently and gave us Youtube.co.ke.

This means a more personalized feel to the whole arrangement and possibly a few bucks too. YAAY J. *insert legendary cash register sound here*. There was pomp and glamour as we slowly get the hang of it all. Some media houses even got deals to have customized channels that would earn them revenue from running pre-video ads.

There’s a catch though.

Posting videos online just doesn’t cut it. Neither does producing any kind of content. The biggest idea is to produce meaningful content. This means producing stuff that people actually want to watch and share. Every media house now has a Youtube page to share videos of what they have been doing with themselves; kind of like a ‘we’ve got you covered’ sort of feel.

Unfortunately, we seem not to have gotten the hang of it yet. Sure we want to see what speech the President gave at yet another inauguration or swearing in; but not for a whole hour. There’s relevance, but ability to keep me glued lacks completely. The average human concentration span holds for about 5 minutes tops. Have something interesting and boost that to a full hour; that is if the content is interesting.

YouTube and LG Electronics have partnered (is it just me or is this week riddles with mergers and potent partnerships) to give us the LG Optimus 3D. And as the name suggests, YES; it has got the much-coveted 3-D technology. It was launched at the ongoing Mobile World Congress running from 14th to 17th February in Barcelona.

This will make it easier for users to take 3D pictures and videos on this phone and upload them to the internet with relative ease. It does this with the help of a system mounted dual-camera for taking the right and left images as is normally the case with 3D cameras.

The LG Optimus is loaded with a 1GHz OMAP4 (Open Multimedia Application Platform Version 4) dual-core processor from Texas Instruments, a dual-channel memory to ensure users have enough power to work on 3D video on the handset. Users get the chance to share 3D videos and pictures via wireless and wired connectors, all and including High Definition Multimedia Interface. Read more »
