Goal.com, the world’s largest football website owned by sports media group PERFORM, recently announced that Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of BlackBerry® smartphones and BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablets, will be promoting the company’s products across the Goal.com web and mobile sites in the Middle East and Africa (MEA).
The Goal.com sites reach over 14 million football fans across the MEA region, including specific local editions for the Nigerian, Ghanaian and Kenyan markets, as well as an Arabic edition for the Middle East and North Africa. The deal will cover the Nigerian, Ghanaian, Kenyan, Egyptian, South African, Qatar, UAE and Jordanian markets, in the first pan-regional marketing partnership for Goal.com in these territories.
To accompany high visibility advertising placements, Goal.com will also develop an exclusive BlackBerry mobile micro-site providing direct access to 9.6 million mobile users which the Goal.com editorial team will write exclusive articles for. Goal.com will also be working with RIM to develop localized promotions and competitions in each market.
“This is a very exciting development in the evolution of Goal.com as both a global and a local platform. Our ambition has always been to provide our users with the best and most relevant football content which in turn will provide RIM with an opportunity to reach an engaged local audience.” Said Daryn Wober, MD for Global Business Development at PERFORM, the company that owns Goal.com which reached 29 million unique users around the world in July 2012.
