The East African Mobile Industry is currently not showing any signs of slowing down in terms of innovations and entrepreneurship. A country like Kenya which is the leader among the East African nations has been recently reported to be recording an average 9 per cent growth rates in subscriptions from 2012 to 2013. There is a similar % increase in mobile money users each quarter (highly dependent on MPesa, Orange Money, YU Cash and Airtel Money. Businesses, just like individuals and startups, have been seen to adopt various mobile tools to increase reach and capability to capitalise on this growing mobile subscription rate trend.
Take a look at a startup like KopoKopo who have built their business on a partnership with a Telco (Safaricom) in a program that allows them to issue business lines for the Lipa na MPEsa system.
