Kaymu, the online marketplace backed by Rocket Internet has unveiled a new offline initiative dubbed SME Saturdays, which aims to assist Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs) grow their businesses.
The first edition of the SME Saturdays’ initiative is planned to kick off this weekend at 12.00pm on October 25, 2014 in Nigeria’s popular city Lagos, with plans to be held once every month.
“SME Saturdays was borne out of the need to boost small scale businesses who do not have the capacity to market themselves independently by exposing them to both online and offline buyers,” said Tomiwa Oladele, head of Communications at Kaymu.
At the monthly event, sale of products offered on the online platform ranging from fashion, beauty, electronics and others will be sold to customers at a discount rate of up to 50 per cent.
The Online platform launched its operations in Kenya earlier this month, competing with the popular and rival online classifieds marketplace OLX with an aim to become the largest online shopping community in the country.
Buyers and sellers in Kenya who are interested in finding out more about Kaymu or in making purchases can visit their platform at kaymu.co.ke, while those in Nigeria can enjoy services by visiting kaymu.co.ng.
Kaymu plans to extend operations in more African countries, citing recognition of the company in Nigeria for the role of fostering growth of SMEs in the country.
The recognition saw the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCL) present its Goodwill Ambassadorship to Kaymu’s Managing Director (MD), Evangeline Wiles.
