Airtel Kenya has introduced a new SMS subscription service that will see the cost of sending messages to other networks go down up to 50 cents for one text message.
Through the new improved service, subscribers on the Airtel network will be able to send six messages at the cost of KSh3 daily to be acquired through bundle subscription.
Airtel is offering bundles to be subscribed either daily, weekly or monthly of up to 1,500 SMS, which have been set to cost the subscriber 5 cents for one SMS sent.
To subscribe to the new bundle service and select a preferred choice, Airtel customers will be required to dial *767# and the same code will be used to check SMS balance.
Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said the new service was aimed at giving customers across Kenya greater freedom by allowing them access to affordable superior quality communication and service on the network to make it easy to keep in touch with loved ones.
Airtel customers will also not have to worry about not using up all the SMS they subscribe to, following a new capability by Airtel to carry forward the unused messages to the following day for the daily renewable bundle, a new offing in the market.
Currently, through the daily bundle service for rival telecom Safaricom that offers messages only to be sent on its network (Safaricom to Safaricom), subscription is renewed every 24 hours with unused texts expiring at the renewal.
The Airtel SMS bundle service will provide customers with two options, either to subscribe for the one-off bundle that will not be renewed or the auto-renewable bundle that will renew upon completion of the time you have subscribed.
