Kenyans on the Safaricom network will now be able to manage and monitor their past M-Pesa transactions in a single view, after the telecom acquired and re-branded existing mobile app M-Ledger in a new announcement today.
The app will now be known as Safaricom M-Ledger.
So what is M-Ledger? It is an android based mobile application that will allow Safaricom MPESA subscribers to track and monitor all their MPESA transactions in a simple and easy way by providing a financial journal on their devices.
Developed by Kenyan Startup Dynamic Data Systems, the new offering by Safaricom will help ease the process of having to scroll down messages to find a transaction you made and will also eliminate the complications of tracing a transaction if and when a text is deleted.
Currently, information on M-Pesa transactions is made available to users through a text message sent to the users’ device and is not available in a conversational mode, making it time consuming when you want to trace a specific transaction that one made.
Safaricom says this new partnership with Dynamic Data Systems is the beginning of a series of more partnerships to come, in efforts to support development and growth of relevant high potential mobile tech start-ups offering solutions to problems.
“Our partnership with Dynamic Data Systems signals our commitment to build capacity in the local startup community,” said Bob Collymore, CEO Safaricom.
M-Ledger has been designed to work like the traditional ledgers used in accounting, and will provide a historical data on past transactions as well as provide the option to extract the data in the form of a spreadsheet.
The solution also comes with a universal search functionality, allowing users to search for Paybill and Lipa na M-Pesa till numbers.
M-Ledger was one of the applications developed during last year’s edition of the annual Safaricom Appwiz competition that is aimed at building and nurturing mobile tech startups that build innovative solutions for Kenyan enterprises and consumers.
The mobile solution is available for download on the Safaricom AppStore and on Google Play Store for customers using Android based mobile phones.
